Health & Hygiene

Diseases are prevalent part of the society. No matter where one lives, being ill is common. But the probability of becoming ill is much more in areas where hygiene is not up to the standards. This is due to the fact that bacteria and virus thrive in dirty areas. This fact results in many people living in the slum areas or in crowded places coming in contact with these viruses and bacteria, becoming ill and sometimes even die.

Of course, there are ways to prevent diseases but certain standards of living needs to be maintained. These standards are exactly what we work on.

  1. Clean Food: It is obvious that dirty food can lead to many diseases.
The unavailability of clean food is one of the most common problems in many areas. Even when one buys food, it is not clean. Certain measures to clean the food should be taken. And that can help with the problem.
We try to provide food that is clean and hygienic.
Also, steps to take before cooking or eating any vegetable or fruit are told to the people. The most common ones include washing the vegetables thoroughly.
In India alone, nearly 3500 cases of diseases related to food-borne bacteria, virus and microbes are reported every year and some of them even lead to death.
  2. Good habits:The next thing to consider is good habits like washing hands before eating. It is a simple task that is taught to children at a very young age but many people are unaware of the consequences of not following the said ritual. It is through this ritual that one can get the best results. When good habits are instilled in the people, their living standards are raised and their health is affected positively.
The habit of washing hands before eating can help reduce the chances of diarrhea by 50%.
  3. Menstrual Hygiene: It is a known fact that many people, especially the ones who do not have access to pads, suffer from various health problems.
Workshops to tell women and girls, the need of maintaining proper cleanliness during the periods is essential and exactly what we do.
Next, we distribute sanitary napkins to the women after telling them about the proper usage of the product.
Other steps that they need to take in order to avoid any disease due to poor maintenance during this period are also told to the women.
88% of the women going through their menstrual cycle do not have sanitary napkins at their disposal.

  4. Health Checkups: We also provide checkups to these citizens from qualified doctors.
They give proper guidance to these people about the diseases they are suffering from and also provide medications to them.
These doctors also give tips on what kind of diet they need to follow, addressing people who are suffering from malnutrition.
Other person, who might be anemic, a blood condition in which the ability of blood cells to carry oxygen is not up to the par with the standard set of requirements is also addressed by the doctors.
In 2015 alone, 2.5 million children’s lives were claimed due to undetected buy curable diseases.
The condition of the country in terms of sanitation, availability of clean water and unadulterated food, health checkups and menstrual hygiene are way less than the minimum required. Certain things are stigma for the society (menstrual hygiene), while others (adulterated food and unclean water) are just the necessary evil without which they will die nonetheless. We as a group are aiming to provide these basic amenities to the people in need.
